The Sherpa Lounger Story: Why Jill Made It
Before there was a Sherpa Lounger, there was a blanket. A very popular one.
Jill Martin had sold hundreds of thousands of them. People wrapped themselves in them on the couch, fell asleep in them, argued over who got them. But wrapping up on the couch and walking out the door are two different jobs.
So Jill asked the question that became the whole brand: why can't I wear a blanket outside?
Nobody had a good answer. So she made one.
The Question
It sounds like a joke, and then you sit with it for a second.
A blanket is the most comfortable thing most of us own. Taking it outside is easy. Keeping it wrapped around you while you find your keys, carry a coffee, and wave at the neighbor? That's the part Jill wanted to fix. She wanted the comfort to come along without looking like she'd brought the whole couch.
Jill wanted the cozy to come with her. That's the origin story. It fits on a Post-it.
What She Built
The Sherpa Lounger is a blanket reimagined as a jacket, and every detail on it exists to answer that question.
The fabric. Two of our most-loved blanket fabrics, layered into one piece. The blanket was the whole point, so the blanket stayed the whole point.
The hood. Oversized, because a blanket you can pull over your head is the version everyone wanted anyway.
The thumbholes. Rib cuffs with thumbholes, so the sleeves stay down and your hands stay warm. Small detail. Big difference on a cold morning.
The button. One button. Open, it drapes like a blanket. Closed, it wears like a jacket. That button is how the same piece works on the couch and on the sidewalk.
The locker loop. So you can hang it up. (Optimistic, we know.)
Designed to be worn inside and outside, all year round. Part hoodie, part robe, part blanket. Jill's answer to her own question, in one piece.
WARNING: YOU MAY NEVER WANT TO TAKE IT OFF.
Why Comfort Was Never Just Comfort
You might know Jill from TV: the TODAY contributor, the 12 Emmys, the Knicks. What you might not know is how long the cozy part has been going. Jill has spent more than two decades on QVC and across major retailers. By Jill Martin is her lifestyle brand: accessible elegance, everyday luxury, and pieces that make regular life feel a little better. The Lounger is that idea at full volume.
Then came her breast cancer diagnosis, and Jill did what she has always done with a platform. She used it. Since then she has been advocating for early detection, health testing, and women's health, sharing her own experience in ways that might help someone else. It's why the NBA and WNBA logos went pink alongside her line, and why a brand built on cozy also talks about getting checked.
Comfort was always the job. Showing up for people is the part she added.
The way a good friend would.
From One Lounger to All of Them
The Lounger took off. Over a million sold, and counting. Then everyone wanted their own version.
Shorter? The Cropped Lounger keeps the cozy and shortens the hem. Lighter? The Lounger Lite is the same idea in a breathable weight for warmer days. Pullover? That's the hoodie. Your team? NBA, NFL, WNBA, and MLB Loungers, and for Breast Cancer Awareness Month the NBA and WNBA logos went pink alongside her line. Your school? The college collection and the sorority crops. Your dog? Yes, really: the pet collection. Even Dorothy got a Lounger.
And the blankets? Still here, still the same fabric, still the ones people steal off each other's couches.
Forbes noticed the line ("Selling Fast With Major Partners"). And Jill's Bingewatching Buddy pillow landed on Oprah's Favorite Things. Apparently, cozy travels well ✨
Go Blue
Jill is a University of Michigan alum, which explains a few things around here: how much maize and blue shows up, why the Michigan Lounger gets the limited-edition treatment, and why the college collection keeps growing. School spirit isn't a category here. It's personal.
The Best Lounger in the World
That's what the tag says: the best lounger in the world, by Jill Martin. It started as a wink and turned into a standard. Every Lounger still has to answer the original question. Can you wear it outside? Does it feel like a blanket? Would you reach for it on a hard day?
Yes, yes, and yes. 💙
Which Lounger Is Yours?
Start with the one that matches how you already dress.
The original. Full length, unisex, hood up, buttoned or open. The Sherpa Lounger that started it all, in solids, prints, and team colors.
The Cropped. Same details, shorter hem, more of the outfit showing. The Classic Cropped Lounger is the one to wear with high-waisted jeans.
The Lite. Same hood, thumbholes, and button in lightweight Wellsoft. The Lounger Lite is the pick for warm climates and packed suitcases.
Yours, specifically. Custom cuff embroidery is available on select hoodies and loungers. Choose a style with personalization and check its lettering options. That's how a Lounger turns into their Lounger.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Jill Martin Sherpa Lounger?
A jacket made from two blanket fabrics, with an oversized hood, thumbhole cuffs, a button closure, and a locker loop, designed to be worn inside and outside all year round. Depending on who's describing it, it's a wearable blanket, a blanket hoodie with a button, or a sherpa jacket that feels like a blanket.
Is the Sherpa Lounger a blanket hoodie?
It's the button-front cousin. A blanket hoodie pulls over; the Lounger opens like a blanket and closes like a jacket. We make both, and the wearable blanket guide walks through which one fits your day.
Can you wear the Sherpa Lounger outside?
Yes. That was the point. Porches, tailgates, school pickup, airports, cold mornings.
How do you wash a Sherpa Lounger?
Machine wash, line dry. That's the label, and that's the routine. Skipping the dryer keeps the sherpa plush.
What sizes does the Lounger come in?
Unisex XS/S through 2XL/3XL, cut generously. Each product page has the size chart, mapped to women's 0 through 28.
Can you personalize a Lounger?
Yes, on select styles. Check the product page for the available cuff embroidery options. Choose the size first: personalized items are final sale.
Wear Your Blanket Outside
One question. One blanket. One line that grew out of it.
Jill's still asking why you can't wear a blanket outside. The answer is hanging on a chair somewhere in your house.
